Delta: Navy Arrests Suspected Oil Thieves
Barely twenty four hours after the visit of the chief of the Naval staff Vice Admiral Usman Jubrin to Naval installations in Warri, where he read the riot act to illegal refineries operators and oil thieves in the Delta waterways, three suspected oil thieves have been arrested by operatives of the Delta Navy command at Okogbene coastal community in Warri South West local government area of the state.
The suspects which includes a seventeen year -old boy were arrested along the creeks after their illegal refineries and substances suspected to be illegally refined crude oil was set ablaze. The destruction and setting ablaze of the illegal refineries and products running into several millions of Naira was made possible
according to Naval authorities, through the help of community elders who alerted Naval patrol teams before burning products and arresting
the suspects in the creeks.
Speaking on their involvement, the seventeen year old suspect who spoke first, blame his predicament on his parents, while others put
the blame on unemployment. Meanwhile, the burning exercise took the Naval operatives over two hours as boats and drums filled with illegally refined crude oil was
also destroyed in an expanse of land covering hundreds of hectares of land, while the new Delta Navy commander Commodore Aliyu Sule in a
statement, promised to intensify the patrols along the waterways in apprehending oil thieves.
