Omeruo on standby again as Rohr submit list for Zambia Clash
Gernot Rohr has submitted the list of players he intends to use in prosecuting Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup 2018 Qualifiers against Zambia. The Super Eagles need a win on the 7th of October in Uyo to secure progress to the World Cup in Russia next year, and the coach has stuck to the same squad of players he used in the last round of qualifiers.
On loan Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo was once again placed on standby by Rohr, who selected the trio of Leon Balogun, William Troost -Ekong and Chidozie Awaziem as his central defence options.Ekong and Balogun are his favourite defensive pair, while Awaziem is being groomed by the coach as back up to any of the aforementioned duo when they are absent from the team.Omeruo who recently moved to Turkish side Kasimpasa on loan from Chelsea made his debut last weekend, and ended up on the losing side as they fell 0-2 to Galatasaray.
However unlike last time when he was on standby, this time around the coach has given him the permission to join up with the team in their camp when it opens on the 1st of October.
The list of call ups for the must win game is expected to be announced by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) next week, with same players who helped the team to a win and a draw against Cameroon listed by Rohr.
