SSANU Charges Govt On Honoring Agreement For Industrial Peace
The Leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Universities has urged the federal government on the need to honour agreement reached with workers unions for industrial peace in a Democracy.
The National President of the Association, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, made the appeal in Abuja while speaking with Journalists ahead of the third Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the Union.
GALAXY TV reports that Comrade Ibrahim stated that the integrity of such agreement is essential for ensuring the welfare and dignity of members adding that, this will also ensure the sustainability and advancement of academic institutions.
He added that government at the center must be ready to honour it's words, especially now that stability in the education sector is crucial.
Comrade Ibrahim added that the third Quadrennial Delegates Conference would not only bring in the new executive for the Association but will also address key ongoing issues that remains in active discussions with federal government.
This includes the outstanding three months withheld salaries, the #50 billion Earned Allowances, arrears of 25/35 percent increments as well as the issue of the abolition of IPPIS in tertiary institutions.
He urged all members of the Association to stand united and steadfast as the strength of the Union lies in solidarity, togetherness towards ensuring the integrity of the educational institutions in the country.
