MRTB Laments Dearth Of Professional And Funding
The Registrar of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board (MRTB), Prof. Rufai Ahmad, has expressed concerns over the shortage of medical rehabilitation professionals, as well as inadequate facilities and infrastructure in Nigeria.
Addressing journalists at the 3rd annual scientific conference of the Nigeria Prosthetic, Orthotic and Orthopaedic Technology Society, in Abuja on Friday, the Registra, lamented over the decline in registered professionals of Prosthetic and Orthopaedic in Nigeria
He also highlighted strong leadership especially the availability of a coordinating unit for rehabilitation citing the absence of leadership as the reason for a lack of consistency in policy and political support for rehabilitation at sub-national and national levels.
He emphasised the need for government at all levels to increase funding for medical rehabilitation towards realisation of the world health organization rehabilitation 2030 agenda initiative.
The President of Nigerian Prosthetic, Orthotic and Orthopaedic Technology Society (NPOOTS), Onwukamuche Chikwado, while highlighting the challenges facing the society, stressed the need for government to strengthen the implementation of policies that support the person's with disabilities and their rehabilitation to help improve life of the disabled and other with special medical need issues.
