Polling Units Expansion: INEC Meets Security Agencies
The Independent National Electoral Commission has taken its advocacy on the expansion of access to the polling unit to the security agencies.
INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu who presided over the meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, said the meeting was to acquaint security agencies with the necessary information with regard to the polling unit expansion.
Professor Yakubu told members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, that the plan will help reduce the spate of violence witnessed at polling units during election.
He said the expansion when achieved, will ease the work of security personnel who strive harder to maintain orderliness and provide a secure environment for a smoother voting process.
National Security Adviser, Major general Babagana Monguno, (retired), who spoke on behalf of other members of the committee, commended INEC for the successes recorded in recent elections conducted across the country recently.
Represented by Mr Sanusi Galadima, Monguno who is also the co-chairman of the committee urged INEC to continue to maintain credibility particularly in the coming gubernatorial elections in Anambra State.
