Troops kill 6,886, arrests 6,970 and rescues 4,488 hostages in one year
The Defence Headquarters has revealed that no fewer than 6, 886 terrorists and other criminal elements were neutralized by troops of the Nigerian Military in their various theatres of operations across the country within one year.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba disclosed this while addressing journalists at the annual review of the operational activities of the military and other security agencies, held at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
Buba noted that troops also arrested 6,970 suspects, rescued 4,488 kidnapped hostages as well as recovered 3,320 assorted weapons and 39,075 assorted ammunition.
He addes that troops of the South-South region recovered 100,316,600 litres of crude oil, 60,339,426 litres of AGO, 3,465,450 litres of DPK and 3,544,990 litres of PMS in the year under review.
Speaking on the attacks on Bokkos and some part of Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State, the Director, Defence Media Operations said the terrain and accesible road to the villages affects the timely reaction to the incidents.
He however assured that the Nigerian Military is restrategizing and putting measures in place to ensure speedy intervention in the future occurrence.
The Director however urged the citizens to continue to support the military with credible information to enhance troops capacity to defeat the common threat bedeviling the nation and to help restore peace and sanity to every part of the country.
