Flooding: TETFund Meets UI VC, Assess Damages At UI Hostels
Following incident of flooding at University of Ibadan (UI) hostel, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has met the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the institution, Prof. Kayode Adebowale and paid on the spot-assessment visit to affected areas.
Other flood prone places visited by TETFund team include Oba dam, UI zoological garden culvet, Department of Forestry, and UI Ajibode extension bridge among others.
Recall that flooding few days ago affected Awo Hostel where about 16 rooms in the underground floor of the hostel was said to have completely submerged with students’ properties destroyed.
Speaking during the visit, leader of the delegation, who is the representative of Southwest on the board of TETFund, Hon. Sunday Adepoju said TETFund as an intervention and proactive agency decided to visited the areas haven't thought it wise not to wait till disaster happen, adding that the agency can't leave lives of students and Institution community in danger.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of the institution, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, (Admin) Prof. Peter Olapegba commended Tetfund team for the visitation, describing the news of the flooding as pure sensationalism.
He said what happened was just a random occurrence which the Institutions has taken steps to avert it's reoccurrence.
He however appeal to federal government and Tetfund to considered the Institution for special intervention in terms of ecological risk and proper chanalization so as to avert future disasters.
