Fire Razes Over Fifty House In Benue Community In Gwer West LG
Over 50 houses have been razed by fire and an 80 year old woman burnt to death including properties worth millions of Naira in Gwer west Local area of Benue state.
The village Head of the community, Chief Ayatse Agubor, who called the information unit of the local government said the inferno took place at about 10 am this Saturday morning when members of the village were in the farm
Zaki Agubor said they were in the farm making efforts to stop the fire from affecting their farm products only to discover that the whole Village was on fire.
He warned youths in the area to desisted from unauthorized Bush burning as henceforth anyone caught will be punished severly.
A woman Hajia Kongo who lost over 10 bags of maize, soya beans and over one hundred thousand Naira hidden in the bags of Burnt corn lamented the level of destruction cause by the inferno and call for help.
The Caretaker Chairman of Gwer west Local government council, Mr Henry Agba, while reacting to the incidence, said his Council will no longer tolerate unwanted Bush burning in the Local Government.
Stating he has send a team to assess the extent of destruction to enable the council report to the state emergency Management Agency.
