FG Urged To Allocate 70% of Health Allocation to PHCS

A Consultant and Public Health Specialist, Dr Babatunde Ipaye, has urged the federal government to invest massively into the national health resources at the Primary Health Care level to boost health development.

Ipaye who was a former commissioner for Health in Ogun State, stated this while delivering a keynote paper at the 2024 Physicians' Week of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Ogun State Branch, that people leaving in the rural areas need basic health care.

He maintained that the priority of government should be on how to spend the paltry sum of resource allocation of the health sector on people in the rural areas. The public health specialist, asked government to invest at least 70 per cent of health allocation on Primary Health Care for health and economic growth.

Speaking of the main theme of the 2024 Physician Week "Ensuring Universal Applicability in Remuneration: A Panacea to Talent Retention in the Healthcare System", Ipaye, insisted that fair and just compensation would help in reducing disparities, and equally motivate workforce.

He said that fair compensation at regular intervals would enhance job performance and satisfaction; hence the need for government at all levels to adequately pay its employees. The State Chairman of NMA, Dr. Luqman Ogunjinmi, enjoined his colleagues to continue to be the future of the nation's health care system by remembering the path they chose to be healers, protectors and advocates Nigerians rely on.
