FG Scarcity: FG Orders Release of 42,000 Metric Tones Of Grain
The federal government has announced some drastic and emergency measures to crash down the prices of staple food items across the country with immediate effect.
Minister of information and national orientation,Mohammed Idris hinted this evening after the close of the three day food security emergency Meeting presided over by chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Part of the measures is the order to the ministry of agriculture and food security to release 42 metric tons of grains from the federal reserves to cushion the effect of the present food scarcity in the country.
The minister said the government is determined to import food items if necessary to augment the present stuff in circulation and also go after unpatriotic Nigerians who are bent on hoarding goods in order to make exorbitant gains at the detriment of the Nigerian populace
On the dwindling fortunes of the naira to foreign currencies and the inability of Nigerians to purchase the few available items, the minister called for more patriotism amongst Nigerians .
The three day meeting was part of efforts of the present administration to bring down the prices of food amidst growing unrest in some parts of the country.
