Amotekun Denies Involvement in Death of Teenager
The Southwest Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, Oyo State Chapter, has denied any involvement in the murder of a fifteen-year-old boy who was shot around 2 am today at the Mokola area of Ibadan.
Angry youths had, early on Wednesday, taken to the streets of Mokola and Secretariat, both within Ibadan metropolis, protesting the killing of the teenager.
The protest paralyzed commercial activities and vehicular movement in the area, while all the gates leading to the Oyo State Secretariat were hurriedly shut by security operatives.
Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that Commandant of the Corps, Olayinka Olayanju, while speaking with newsmen on the incident, debunked the allegation by the youths that one of his men shot the teenager, adding that none of the patrol team of the Corps was in the area around the time the incident occurred.
Also, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Michael Adaralewa, said security agencies would unveil the identity of the person that shot the teenager.
Olayinka and Adaralewa enjoined the protesters not to allow themselves to be used in disrupting the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
Normalcy has since returned to the affected areas, while security men have continued constant patrol of the troubled areas.
