As a means of preventing people from eating contaminated meat, the Delta state special task-force has destroyed the illegal abattoir market at Effurun community, in Uvwie local government area of the state.

The exercise which started early in the morning saw the traders rushing for their wares while some were weeping over the level of destruction.

Speaking on the exercise as officials bring down the filthy abattoir, the Chairman of the Task-force said he had issued out several notices while the chairman of Butchers' association blamed the butchers for not heeding his advice.

The Delta state government had last year given relocation notice to traders and people at the abattoir market to relocate to another market before the demolition.
