Oyo Govt. Sets Up Taskforce To Flush Out Illegal Miners.
Following incessant illegal mining activities in some parts of the Oke-Ogun area in recent times, Oyo State government has setup a taskforce to flush out illegal mining activities and protection of its mining sites across the state.
GALAXYTV segun Falomo reports that the taskforce was constituted as a resolution of a 3-hour closed door meeting held at the Secretary to the state government's Board Room, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The state governor, Seyi Makinde said his administration will no longer watch and allow illegal miners to cart away the state's fortunes on its mineral resources.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal noted that the Seyi Makinde led administration would continue to improve synergy with all federal and state security agencies to halt illegal mining in three local councils of the Oke-Ogun Area of Oyo State, including Olorunsogo, Irepo and Oorelope and the entire state.
While briefing the state house correspondents, the Director-general of Solid Mineral Development Agency, Abiodun Oni maintained that the template for the taskforce formation would include himself as the chairman,heads of all security agencies, local council chairmen, federal and state stakeholders as members would be submitted for approval within the next two weeks.
