Reduce Your Subscription Cost - Reps Tell StarTimes
The House of Representatives has given StarTimes, two weeks to review its subscription fees to reflect the current 2.5% VAT increase in the country.
House Adhoc Committee investigating the Non-Implementation of Pay as You Go tariff by Broadcast Satelite Providers in the country handed down the ultimatum during its hearing in Abuja, Tuesday.
Chairman of the Committee, Uyime Idem said the decision was to allow the company liberty to review the tariff while taking consideration of some variables including Exchange Rate, in the interest of Nigerians.
Chief operating officer of star time Aina Tunde in his defense explained that the rise on tax payable to government as well as spike on the exchange rate caused the hike in their tariff
StarTimes, one of the Satelite TV Service Provider in Nigeria had increased its subscription fees by 30% citing increase in Value Added Tax, high exchange rate and number of channels provided as reasons.
DSTV and other Broadcast Satellite providers failed to appear before the committee.
