The Chairman of the House Committee on Power, Hon. Victor Nwokolo says without the change in tariff, the industry lacks the capital to bring the needed change in the power sector. Speaking at a meeting with stakeholders In Abuja, Hon Nwokolo noted that the increase in tariff has been due since 2022 following the population expansion in Nigeria.

He highlighted that the issue of Band A or B is not to discriminate against anybody; noting that areas being covered is beyond what they have estimated in the past because they needed to expand their own networks which requires more money.

The chairman said although, the committee has not fully agreed with the stakeholders but wants to get more inputs and to find out the possibility on whether gas can be sold in naira to the stakeholders which is currently sold in dollar. He stressed that while the Committee cannot stop the increase in tariffs; the decision can be decided by the House.
