Ekiti Slashes Salaries of Political Appointees
Ekiti state governor Kayode Fayemi has directed that salaries of all political appointees in the State, be slashed by 50%, with immediate effect.
In a Statement signed by the Commissioner for Information in the State, Muyiwa Olumilua, Fayemi Says it is only appropriate to make this sacrifice for the welfare of the Ekiti people at this period of emergency.
The Governor explained that this move is necessary because of the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 scourge, which has affected the global economy and as a result, it is proper to take stock of the financial situation, vis-a-vis the State’s constantly decreasing receipts from the federation account, as well as the dwindling internally generated revenue (IGR), which has forced everyone to wake up to the current realities of the state’s fiscal position.
He revealed that Savings from this pay cut will be channelled into the execution, and completion of developmental projects in the State.
The pay cut will affect the Governor himself, the Deputy Governor, and all political appointees down the line.
However, Salaries of civil servants will not be affected by this directive and shall maintain the status quo.
