Barely three weeks  after  five aggrieved   Delta  community youths shut oil operations of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company(NPDC) protesting neglect  in the areas  of employment and sharp practices   by the oil multinational.

have taken over the premises of the NPDC, thereby disrupting operations from  the oil field and site.

The protest started as early as 7am in the morning as leaves  and placards wielding women and elders  took over the oil field, while the agile youths  went on three  speed boats to  the NPDC  site which is about  three minutes.

Addressing journalists on their action, the community chairman disclosed that only a signed M.O.U. will guarantee a peaceful atmosphere. Also speaking, the community youth leader blamed NPDC for neglecting them, while the public relations officer of the community promised to mobilize and shut down operations of the firm after seven days. Meanwhile, workers of the oil  firm were forced to vacate their operational field to their various residential  site  while the
protest lasted  for fear  of  being  attacked.

On his part, the safety manager who also stands as the site manager of the NPDC,  promised  to deliver the message of the protesters   to the appropriate authorities without any confrontation. In the same vein, there was no presence of JTF soldiers while the protest lasted, as the operations officer Capt. Sunday Olaleye said they were  protecting the oil installations of the NPDC  along the waterways, and not to engage the protesters to cause further crisis,
as tempering with the oil installations will amount to economic sabotage which will not go down well with the country.
