Xenophobia: Act, we are behind you, house tell buhari

In the same vein but in another development, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has pledged the support of the lower chamber to President Muhammadu Buhari towards protecting Nigerians against xenophobic attacks in South Africa.


Addressing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa Abuja, Friday, the speaker said the lower chamber is on the same page with President Muhammadu Buhari whom he said has taken proactive steps on the issue.

He described the attacks as unfortunate and reason for his visit to the villa.

The speakers he cut his trip to Tanzania to return with the hope of reconvening the house but could proceed with calling back the house since actions have been taken by the executive.

On the report alleging that South Africa won’t pay compensation to Nigerian victims of xenophobic attacks, he said such state is unofficial.

He said the government will take further steps when its official.

He disclosed that other issues discussed with the President included returning national budget cycle to January to December, the $9.6 billion judgment against Nigeria and security issues.

The speaker could not, however, confirm the presence of the year twenty budget proposal by the end of September as intended by the Executive.
