Reps Resolve To Probe The Spending N200BN 2023 Census Funds
The House of Representatives has Mandated its committee on population to investigate the application of the N200 billion meant for the suspended 2023 Population and Housing Census by the National Population commission to report back within four weeks for further legislative action.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion titled, “Need to Investigate N200 Billion Spent on the Suspended 2023 Population and Housing Census” moved by Hon Clement Akanni.
The House noted that census is a process of systematically collecting, compiling, and analyzing demographic, social, and economic data of a population within a specific region.
It also recalled that the National Population Commission (NPC) says, it has spent about 200 Billion to prepare for the 2023 population and housing census.
The House was disturbed that the exercise was, however, suspended indefinitely by former President Muhammadu Buhari a few days before leaving office....hence the need to know how the fund was expended
The House also called on security agencies to free 300 women kidnapped in Borno state while fetching fire woods in the bush.
Hon Zainab Gimba from Borno state who mentioned it during Thursday's plenary prayed that the House call on security agencies to as a matter urgency free the abducted women.
According to Gimba, the adoption is the second largest after the Chibok Girls adoption by the Boko Haram insurgents in April 2014
