Experts from the Nigeria Institute of soil Science, Southwest zone have stressed the need for farmers and extension workers to have adequate knowledge of soil samples for improved harvest. A cross-section of Soil Scientists who spoke at a one-day train the trainer workshop for farmers and extension workers held at Moore Plantation in Ibadan said the brain behind the training is to increase food production in the country.

 Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that the Southwest Coordinator, Nigeria Institute of Soil Science, Prof. James Adediran, emphasized the need for more training on strategies required to manage various soils in Nigeria if food production must increase. On his part, a keynote speaker, Dr. Shittu urged farmers and extension workers to be careful in handling soil for food production noting that they should desist from acts that could reduce relevant minerals in the Soil.

 Other speakers at the training commended the institute for the initiative stressing that inadequate knowledge of the soil remains one of the challenges of food production in the country. The Training was attended by farmers and extension workers from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti states.
