FG To Compensate Victims Of Ogun Gas Explosion
The Federal Government says it would compensate the victims who suffered serious injuries and loss of properties in the gas explosion accident in Abeokuta on Saturday.
The Minister for State for Petroleum (Gas) Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo made this known when he took an on the spot assessment of the situation on Wednesday in Abeokuta.
Galaxy TV reports that a CNG laden vehicle had lost control due to a failed brake and rammed into the road divider thereby causing an explosion which resulted in an inferno that caused loss of lives and properties in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Ekpo described the incident as regrettable saying the lives of every citizen is important.
He noted that effective standards must be maintained to avert any future disasters that may be connected to gas. He called on the CNG companies to involve the regulators like the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) so as to ensure that whatever is used in all vehicles meets the necessary standards.
Also Speaking, Engr. Farouk Ahmed, the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) who expressed concern about the incident.
He said that the authority would reach out the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to ensure that the vehicles and drivers are well trained.
On her part, the deputy governor said the government would ensure people do not have a bad impression about the usage of CNG.
