Benue State Government has assured victims of a tanker explosion in Agatu local government area of the state the necessary provision to assuage their pains and sufferings, pending the assessment of damage wrecked on the immediate community.

The Executive Director of State Emergency and Management Agency, (SEMA), Mr Emmanuel Shior, made this known when he visited the scene of the incident to sympathize with victims and the affected community, following the number of persons who died and the properties destroyed by the inferno.

Over Seventy houses were razed, and twelve persons died including the driver and a motor boy in the explosion that took place on Sunday afternoon in Oshigbodu in Agatu LGA. The tanker laden with diesel was on its way to Abuja from Otukpo, en route Owetu - Abuja road when he lost control and fell.

The executive secretary who was represented by Cyprian Sonogo, said considering the extent of damage, the report will further be given to the governor whom he said will sent palliatives and assist them, as well construct speed breaker on those roads.

Others who spoke about the incident called on the government for support, saying the extent of destruction to people’s properties were enormous.

Meanwhile, another truck laden with petrol also fell early hours of today at about 4 am, luckily there was no explosion.
