Benue community protest police alleged brutality
Ikurav - ya Community in Ikyongen in Kwande Local government area of Benue State have staged a protest to call on the Inspector General of Police to fish out the policeman from Adikpo Police Division who killed and shot late Ityavmbi Terhemen and Iorhemen Shima, on Thursday, 29th of August, 2019.
The families and community of both victims are also calling on the federal government and concerned stakeholder to assist them in seeking justice against the Benue Police who have twisted the case against the victims.
Late Ityavmbi Terhemen and Iorhemen Shima, are two commercial motorcyclists killed and maimed by a Policeman attached to SARS in Adikpo division in Kwande LGA on a market day on the allegation that they refuse to pay one hundred Naira at a roadblock mounted by the operatives.
The protesters with placards say the two cyclists are known to them and are not criminals as alleged by the police who are trying to cover up their atrocities hence, they are demanding justice and compensation for the act of brutality meted out on their sons and breadwinner of their families.
At an emergency meeting held by the District Head of the Community, Chief Felix Ngumdesehan, and President - General of Ikyurav - ya, Development Association, Mr Linus Akaadue Ityor, they both described the police brutality as unfortunate stating that killing and maiming of their sons were without any provocation stating that the culprit must be brought to book.
Meanwhile, one of the Victims shot by the Police Mr Iorhemen Shima, a commercial motorcyclist receiving treatment is demanding justice and compensation.
The Benue Police Command reacting to the incident, through the image-maker, DSP Catherine Anene said the victims were shot during a scuffle after two pistols were found in the bags they were carrying.
Late Ityavmbi Terhemen body allegedly shot by the trigger happy cop has now been deposited at a mortuary.
