AGIP Shuts Facility over Oil Spill in Bayelsa Community
Barely forty-eight hours after the people of Egbebiri community in Biseni clan of Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa state raised the alarm over oil spill at the Nigeria Agip Oil Company facility as a result of equipment failure.
The oil multinational on Wednesday shut the facility after confirming the oil spill which has ravaged the community and destroyed the aquatic life and environment of the predominantly fishing community.
The oil multinational promised to embark on a remediation process by cleaning up the facility and ensuring that the ruptured pipeline is fixed before any operation in the facility.
It will be recalled that leaders and youths of the Bayelsa community had threatened to shut the facility over neglect before the intervention of the oil multinational.
